Seattle has just about had its fill of threats coming out of Washington D.C.
Mayor Ed Murray and City Attorney Pete Holmes issued a statement Monday reaffirming Seattle’s position as a welcoming city in response to threats by Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ that the federal government would withhold funding from cities that refuse to use local resources to help the federal government enforce its immigration policies.
Seattle’s leadership is willing to lose all federal funding in order to maintain its status as a sanctuary city, Murray said Monday.
“If Attorney General Sessions is so concerned about Seattle’s safety, pulling law enforcement dollars from cities nationwide is the height of hypocrisy and makes us less safe,” Murray’s statement reads.
“Bigotry, not safety, seems to be at the heart of the White House immigration policy,” Murray said.
