March for youth
Look for a sign of unity this Sun., Aug. 30, when two groups of marchers converge near Interstate 90 at the head of Seattle’s Rainier Valley. They’re rallying to stop the sudden acts of violence that are claiming young lives.
Gloster says young Black men are targeted by the war on drugs, failing schools and unfair policing. “It feels like to me that there’s a certain population of young people that has been deemed not important,” she says.
The March for Youth begins at two points: in the Central District at 3 p.m. at the Promenade 23 shopping center, 23rd Ave. and S. Jackson St., and at the same time in the South End, at Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. and S. Walker St. Marchers will rally at Sam Smith Park, 1400 MLK Jr. Way S., at 4 p.m.
