The state House proposed adding $100 million for the Housing Trust Fund in fiscal 2011. The Senate proposed cutting it nearly $40 million. Now it looks like the two chambers have settled on a figure of $50 million, which is better than nothing, housing advocates say.
“It is still up for negotiation,” says Rachael Myers, executive director of the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance, but “the House is pretty committed to ensuring there’s some affordable housing money included in the budget, so that’s a good sign.”
Among the few housing-related bills that made it through the session, House Bill 1956, which would allow churches to host tent cities on a temporary basis, was on the governor’s desk for signature at press time.
