The Out of the Margins program is
currently being redesigned. Please check back later
in the year for more information.
StreetWrites is a workshop of homeless
and low-income writers in Seattle, Washington. Our mission
is to help each other improve writing skills, get published,
increase the voice of the marginalized, and break down
stereotypes.
In Seattle, at the offices of the Real Change Homeless
Empowerment Project, we have writing workshops and resources
including desktop publishing and Internet access; we
also offer instruction in whatever skills you need to
get your vision out. There will soon be StreetWrites
workshops at other locations in seattle, too, and we
have an online workshop list with members far from Seattle.
Many of our writers choose to submit work to Real Change;
we also have a library of information on other markets
and assist in making submissions. In addition, we have
published three of our own chapbooks and are into the
second issue of our own zine. We have had a table at
Bumbershoot arts & literature festival every year and
we sell individual member publications as well as StreetWrites
publications.
