We The People have spoken by choosing to vote or by choosing to be silent.
Congratulations President-Elect Donald Trump. You have won enough Electoral College votes to win the election. You have shown that a political outsider can be president.
Congratulations Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. As of this post, you have won the popular vote. You have shown that a woman can win her party’s nomination.
Mazel Tov Sen. Bernie Sanders. You have shown that the voice of the people without help from big donors can come within striking distance of being his party’s nominee.
It is time to unify and make changes.
● Let’s improve laws to ensure that as many people as possible are able to vote, such as easier-to-prove registration and eligibility, longer voting hours, postage-free ballots, Saturday and Sunday voting, more accessible locations, making Election Day a national holiday, and allowing people who have committed crimes to vote if all that is left is their financial obligations.
● Let’s change the law so that the popular vote determines the election.
● Let’s change the law so that all offices are determined by having instant runoff voting.
● Let’s change laws so that contributions to candidates come from individuals in limited amounts and only from people that they represent.
● Let’s have fact-checking mechanisms that all candidates for all offices agree to in order to receive any government support.
