Asian Counseling and Referral Service: online event; 1–5 p.m., free, 18+
Asian Counseling and Referral Service, the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, and New Americans Campaign have come together for this free clinic to help eligible green card holders apply for U.S. citizenship. An eligible green card holder must be over 18 years old and have had their green card for over five years. A basic understanding of English and U.S. history and government will also be necessary moving forward in the application. This process can easily become overwhelming and confusing, so this is a great opportunity for anyone who needs the support or some guidance. Goddess speed!
An Evening in the Mediterranean with Zoi Antonitsas
Sound Excursions and Where Ya at, Matt: livestream; 5–7 p.m., $59.99, all ages
What could be better than suddenly being transported to an island in Greece? Honestly, probably not much, but (!) we have an enticing option: a delicious Mediterranean inspired dinner led by Chef Zoi Antonitsas (previously of Seattle’s Lake Union restaurant Westward). You will get a box filled with delicious ingredients, and then you will be guided by Chef Zoi through preparing it. I bet you’ll never look at homecooked salmon the same way again. If you’re interested in the cook along, be sure to order your box by Sept. 17; Ballard Commissary kitchen is arranging local deliveries and pickups. So, sure, maybe it’s not as good as magically waking up in Greece, but it’s definitely a wonderful alternative! Bon appetit!
Soufend Self Defense & Martial Arts Session
Turtle Shark Defense: Othello Park, Seattle; 10 a.m.–12 p.m., $10
The people of Turtle Shark Defense are putting forth their excitement to communally teach self-defense essentials. The classes are every Sunday, so you can go for one or for many. Tickets are $10, but if that’s unrealistic for you at the moment, you are encouraged to let the administrator know so they can work it out with you. The classes will be strictly following health guidelines, so a mask is mandatory for the duration. They also recommend you sign up with a friend in your bubble so you can have a partner to practice with in class. Hand sanitizer and wipes will be readily available as well. The exact location and the teachers will be kept private until you are registered, but the teachers are all antiracists or people of color, aiming to create a safer space.
