Food for Kids
- Issue: Food programs for the hungry, obviously a basic response to a simple problem, have been used as tools for political ends and in the nation’s increasingly mean-spirited social reforms. For instance, Food Stamps nationwide were cut 3% wholesale in the Fall of 1996.
- On the State level, eligibility was limited for single adults, and further cutbacks were placed on parents who are on welfare. The specifics of those cuts are disheartening, but what hurts even more is that now food programs for children are being eliminated too.
