It's About Time for a Hygiene Center
- Issue: After a city study concluded that day and hygiene services for homeless people fell short of need, this year, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels included $2.3 million in his proposed budget to build a homeless services center in the south end of downtown. The plan is part of the Fire Station 10 replacement project and funding comes from the city's Capital Improvement Program, which means it doesn't compete with other projects for limited General Fund dollars. The City Council is currently reviewing the Mayor's proposed budget, and will vote for a final 2005 budget before Thanksgiving.
