Chief Seattle Club is a social service center in Seattle devoted exclusively to meeting the needs of urban homeless American Indians, Alaska Natives, and First Nations People. It is the only such place in Seattle. It is also a center of advocacy and activism.
When I first dropped in, it shared space for a few hours each morning with the Lazarus Day Center at 97 South Main. In 2007, the Club moved around the corner to a beautifully renovated building where it offers showers, laundry, clothing, health care, food, housing assistance, computer training, the Urban Indian Legal Clinic, a Native art program and gallery, and a safe, nurturing space, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday. Beyond all of that, the Club is a spiritual center for the Native community
