Interim Mayor Tim Burgess announced a plan to allow a civilian-staffed office and the Chief of Police to dole out off-duty jobs to police in an effort to increase transparency.
“In no circumstances will individual police officers be allowed to assign off-duty jobs to fellow officers. As I said in September, that old practice ends with this administration,” Burgess said in a press release.
The change comes after a report in The Seattle Times that officers were suspected of engaging in price-fixing for off-duty work.
