Because this is what elected leadership does these days, Mayor Jenny Durkan took to Twitter to announce that the group selected to rehab Key Arena had formally applied for a hockey team.
“Excited to share the news that @OVGSeattle completed their application to the @NHL — one step closer to bringing another great sports team to our City and revitalizing @SeattleCenter,” Durkan wrote.
OVG was tapped for the $600 million revamp of Key Arena. In interviews with Q13, OVG CEO Tim Leiweke said he hoped that the investment would attract an NHL or NBA team to the city. Durkan said Feb. 20 she hasn’t given up on the Supersonics.
