Thousands gathered at the Temple De Hirsch Sinai Monday night to mourn 11 people killed in an attack on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27.
It was the deadliest attack on Jewish people in the United States.
Police shot and apprehended Robert Gregory Bowers after the attack. According to The New York Times, Bowers had a history of anti-Semitic postings on Gab, a social media site that has been embraced by members of the alt-right.
President Donald Trump announced that he would travel to Pittsburgh to pay his respects after refusing to cancel two rallies in the wake of the shooting. Mayor William Peduto said that the presidential visit would be “a distraction” while the congregations bury their dead, according to The New York Times.
