“Cporate greed that fueled the loss of trucking jobs ruins local communities,” RC op/ed, Jan. 8, was spot on. And, indeed, totally under reported vis a vis the accounting/fraud debacle. Most of the mainstream media reports I read wanted to make it sound like they were some sort of victims from the Trump economy. But, my point here is what is going to happen when you multiply the loss of the Celadon jobs times 10,000. Yes, I said, 30 million. That’s probably how many jobs tied to trucking will be gone, in one fashion or another, within the next 15 to 20 years after quantum computing, AI and autonomous moving of freight, is fully implemented. Unless rural communities (especially) start to prepare, we will be looking at a dystopian landscape far worse than what we see currently thanks to the loss of manufacturing and the opioid crisis.
