The International Network of Street Papers (INSP) unites over 100 papers worldwide and organizes initiatives like Vendor Week, when we get creative each February to support our vendors.
For several years now, Real Change Development Director Camilla Walter has found community leaders who will partner with our vendors during Vendor Week to share the experience of selling a newspaper in a bustling city on a, usually rainy, weekday.
Stone Gossard, a member of Pearl Jam and a philanthropist, participated this year for the second year in a row, leading dozens of fans to scramble around downtown to find him and buy a paper. Canada Jones and Gossard sold more than 50 papers during the two-hour Heroes event.
Ten pairs in all participated and spread out around Seattle’s Pioneer Square and Westlake Park.
Another eye-catching player was the one and only Mariner Moose. There really is only one person — one moose actor — and that person showed up to jump around and wave a paw clutching Real Change, alongside the calm presence of Real Change Vendor Michael, to sell as many papers as possible.
