Job loss was cited as the #1 reason for people experiencing homelessness in the last Point-in-Time Count. For many people, immovable barriers make finding a job even more difficult.
“They want a resume, a background check. They want specific hours. I like to be my own boss and set my own pace,” Real Change vendor Lorenzo shared.
After moving to Seattle, he worked as a pedi-cab driver, shuttling fans to stadiums. And he loved the work. And then, COVID-19 hit, and stadiums closed down. Lorenzo, like so many others, turned to Real Change for a solution: low-barrier work for anyone who needs it. Having a reliable, trusted option to turn to for work when the city was closing down was a game changer for Lorenzo and so many Real Change vendors.
