December has arrived, and with it a season of cold, wet weather that can be unpleasant for some and downright deadly for others. University Heights Center — called UHeights, for short — held a clothing and supply giveaway on Sunday, Dec. 5 to outfit people in need with warm clothing, hygiene supplies and a hot meal.
“Instead of needing to buy something, people [here] help you,” said Mike, one of the participants.
Another participant, River, said that she’d come for the breakfast and had been surprised to receive toiletries and ibuprofen as well. A local organization called Subvert UD brings food to UHeights every Sunday.
Event organizers said that the tables they’d set up had been heaped with clothing and other necessities at the start of the four-hour event. Within an hour and a half, only one coat remained. They’d received donations of approximately 100 coats.
